Bodegas Alina Emblema Sauvignon Blanc: Wine Woman Pick

Bodegas Alina Emblema Sauvignon Blanc

BRILLIANT!!!! 2014 vintage is here. Fresh & powerful Chilean White with plenty of proper zingy acidity. A strong fresh floral wine with an intriguing mix of exotic fruits (passion fruit, grapefruit). The medium full body is a silken palate and exquisitely intense, with a supportive acidic structure and a nice finish. Our top selling white for the last 36 months (Dec 2015), sold elsewhere online at 138. Ouch.

This has lots and lots of crunch with plenty of citrus and green apple fruit and some sweeter, tropical notes. Quite savoury on the palate, a little herbal edge and fresh acidity. A nicely balanced wine and a restrained yet fruity style.

San Medin Sauvignon Blanc

Miguel Torres Chile San Medin Sauvignon Blanc

A classy Sauvignon Blanc made in a style closer to an entry level AOC French style than a great NZ Marlborough (guess which I prefer). But this Chilean San Medin has an advantage over a similarly priced French Sauvignon Blanc (if you can find one at this price in SH) in that it tastes of something.

Torres Fransola (Penedes- Sauvignon Blanc): Wine Woman Pick

Torres Fransola White Penedes

Stunning. It’s not often that one gets to sample a Sauvignon Blanc that’s had some time in tanks maturing over it’s lees (the yeasty sediment by product of fermentation). I first took this to an event we ran in March 2012. It blew everyone in attendance away. Intense aroma of fruit and spices over a background of new oak. Fresh and lush on the palate, it’s very big with the aroma’s well-defined fruit notes (vine peach and summer melon), complemented by hints of vanilla and toast acquired during the lees ageing.
