B.P. Rothschild Mapu White (Sauvignon Blanc/Chardonnay)

Same story as the red: A successful Chilean blend. Bright and brilliant pale yellow. Fresh and elegant, it opens on grapefruit and mango notes. A fresh elegant attack leads into a succulent mid-palate that starts on citrus and goes on to develop notes of tropical fruit, building to a lively and well-balanced finish.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Sauvignon Blanc Languedoc

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Sauvignon Blanc

Brilliant, very light yellow. The expressive nose reveals notes of white peach, citrus fruit and white blossom. Very complex, fresh and pleasant, it is typical of a southern Sauvignon. The attack is supple, with a strongly mineral cast, leading into a fresh finish with lime and grapefruit flavors. The wine displays a fine balance between roundness and freshness.

Fernway Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc: Wine Man Pick

October 16, 2011
Fernway Sauvignon Blanc

The NZ wine is pale straw, with an impressive aromatic attack full of ripe asparagus, cucumber & melon. Drink cold & fresh, on its own for the sheer pleasure. The flavour profile is complex with wonderful crispness from highly integrated acidity. The long refreshing finish is incredibly moreish. Going up in price again this year due to a stronger NZ currency.

Honor L’Empereur Sauternes Bordeaux 500ml

Honor L'Empereur Sauternes Bordeaux 500ml

Beautiful clear golden yellow. White candied fruit nose; appreciates decanting or ‘breathing’. Rich textures; oily, creamy, fruity, mellow, generous. Tastes of apricots, yellow peaches, candied citrus. In youth, the finish is a little brisk yet, thus foiling complete perfection. This example gets the message well and truly across, and at good value.

San Medin Sauvignon Blanc

November 29, 2011
Miguel Torres Chile San Medin Sauvignon Blanc

A classy Sauvignon Blanc made in a style closer to an entry level AOC French style than a great NZ Marlborough (guess which I prefer). But this Chilean San Medin has an advantage over a similarly priced French Sauvignon Blanc (if you can find one at this price in SH) in that it tastes of something.

Torres Fransola (Penedes- Sauvignon Blanc): Wine Man Pick: New Wine

March 1, 2015
Torres Fransola White Penedes

Stunning. It’s not often that one gets to sample a Sauvignon Blanc that’s had some time in tanks maturing over it’s lees (the yeasty sediment by product of fermentation). I first took this to an event we ran in March 2012. It blew everyone in attendance away. Intense aroma of fruit and spices over a background of new oak. Fresh and lush on the palate, it’s very big with the aroma’s well-defined fruit notes (vine peach and summer melon), complemented by hints of vanilla and toast acquired during the lees ageing.
