A. Zirnhelt Gewürztraminer Vin D’Alsace

January 7, 2013
A. Zirnhelt Gewurztraminer Vin D' Alsace

A personal favourite. Although ‘Gewurz’ can be made into various styles; aromatic complexity, full body & spiciness are common characteristics. Expect flavours of lychees & roses with some residual grapey-ness. This example is vinified true to the original drier style. Loves to consumed as an aperitif or with Foie Gras.

A. Zirnhelt Riesling Vin D’Alsace

January 7, 2013
A. Zirnhelt Riesling Vin D'Alsace

Update: June 2013: Another 6 months bottle age has turned this offering into a much drier experience with greater savouriness. It’s bone dry. Aromas of freshly sliced lime; the citrus zing showing in the flavour profile via lemony elements typical of Riesling. The acid is refreshing and vibrant, and would mix with – cut through – most oil-based foods. A very juicy wine with a minerally finish, making it more alluring. Yum Yum.

Baron de Ley Rioja Blanco: New Wine

Baron de Ley Rioja Blanco

Check out this write-up. So funny. I had to leave it, despite the fact that I rather like white Rioja. Light Yellow colour with a green hue. Clean and bright. Amazingly attractive grass and dill nose, showing a uniqueness of Rioja whites. Tastes a good harmony of acidity and alcohol with a excellent structure. It’s a brilliant apertif. Pairs with Roast fish or seafood.

Baron de Ley Rioja Rosado Rosé: New Wine

Baron de Ley Rioja Rosado Rosé

This is a great find. We are very happy to have introduced this to a couple of rosé fans, who in turn spread the word amongst their friends and in the case of a club; their members. Of course, in Spain the term for rosé is rosado. This is a very light rosé Rioja, often new to many people who associate Rioja with fruity red, full bodied, easy-drinking wines. Easily drinkable on its own, it would work well alongside light canapés or desserts.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild Sauvignon Blanc

Brilliant, very light yellow. The expressive nose reveals notes of white peach, citrus fruit and white blossom. Very complex, fresh and pleasant, it is typical of a southern Sauvignon. The attack is supple, with a strongly mineral cast, leading into a fresh finish with lime and grapefruit flavors. The wine displays a fine balance between roundness and freshness.

Lovely example of a tasty Spanish Rioja with nice balancing acidity. Dark, intoxicating hues and aromas hit you with a strong attack of integrated oak and fruit. This 100% Tempranillo Rioja Crianza has spent over one year in oak, has plenty of acidity, which rounds off the fruit and oak, nicely.

Camino De Castilla Ribera Del Duero Crianza (Tempranillo): Wine Man Pick

Camino De Castilla Ribera Del Duero (Tempranillo)

A Spanish region known for very expensive wines has thrown up an absolute gem at a real bargain. Think Rioja with a similar fruit intensity, just a little less oak but some good bottle age. Also, a little cheaper than our Pomal Rioja crianza. Best if served with something hot and well flavoured like grilled lamb cutlets with mint and thyme. Benefits too, from breathing. Even better on day 2 also.

Claus C. Jacob German Riesling: BIN END

Claus C. Jacob Riesling

It is pretty much impossible to find anything from Germany that doesn’t break the bank here in Shanghai and now this one we did find is almost all gone. I think we have here, a summer aperitif and a great partner to fish, seafood, poultry and pasta dishes with cheese or cream based sauces. The wine is shipped by Thomas Rath through whom we found a very delightful Auselese and Spätelese in 2010.
